Expert dissertation assistance

Expert assistanceAcademicEdit provides expert dissertation editing and formatting in all fields. We draw upon firsthand knowledge of academic expectations to offer concrete guidance and advice.

A long tradition of excellenceHOW WE CAN HELP YOU

Editing for quality
If you, like us, are interested in producing the best possible work, we can take a look at your manuscript and tell you what needs to be done and what can be accomplished by different levels of dissertation editing.

Editing prior to initial submission
If you already know that you have writing weaknesses and want help strengthening the writing before sending your document to your advisor for first approval, we will work with you to raise the standard. We will also tell you about any other weaknesses we note.

Spot editing
Sometimes, your committee may have approved the major part of your dissertation but want one or two chapters strengthened. Alternatively, committee members may have asked you to slash some sections. We can assist with both these processes. Or, if needed, we can edit only certain problem sections throughout the dissertation that you designate using highlighting or colored type. In this case, you will only be charged for the specific number of words edited.

Editing based on committee feedback
If you have made changes based on advisor or committee comments, we will read the comments and make sure that your revisions have fully and appropriately addressed them. We will not, however, write the changes for you.

Formatting assistance

All formatting is offered as part of the general editing services. We regret that, because of time and cost efficiencies, we no longer offer formatting only and no longer format to individual college format manuals. If, however, your college has a 2-4 page formatting checklist, we will try our best to incorporate their preferences into the editing/formatting choices.

Style manual formatting
The most widely used style manuals for dissertation formatting are APA, CMS/Turabian, and MLA, in whose conventions AcademicEdit is expert. Our dissertation formatting service will make sure that your citations, verb tenses, typefaces, levels of subheads, tables, figures, and list of references/works cited follow the appropriate conventions.

Journal guideline formatting
Some disciplines (e.g., archeology, computer science, engineering) do not have official style manuals; therefore, colleges/faculty may suggest that the candidate use the author guidelines of a major journal in the field (e.g., American Journal of Archeology, IEEE Proceedings). Because AcademicEdit specializes in faculty publications, we are familiar with many leading journal guidelines and are expert in following them.

WHAT WE CANNOT DO

AcademicEdit is unable to provide certain services based on three criteria: ethics, economics, and expertise:

Ethical considerations
AcademicEdit cannot provide any services that cross the line between editing and plagiarism. Such unethical assistance includes but is not limited to actually writing any parts of your dissertation (including the abstract or paraphrases of quotations), adding in extra research, and/or adding in our own ideas (although we can write in logical segues for coherence or insert comments that prompt you to consider other ideas/arguments).

Economic considerations
Because AcademicEdit is a no-frills budget service, we cannot act as writing mentors or instructors during the actual writing process (e.g., we do not provide teleconsultations to assist as you progress through writing and revising). Rather, we make actual amendments in text that is already written, meaning that once the text is revised, we can edit it in light of the advisor comments.

This consideration also applies if we, as former faculty and AAUP members, suspect a certain shirking on the part of the candidate and/or the school (e.g., the dissertation is written at an undergraduate level, the candidate has no idea which style manual the school requires, the candidate has no idea what a style manual is). Under these circumstances, we reserve the right to turn the project down.

Field of expertise
We are sorry but as former writing faculty, we are rhetorical experts but "don't do math." Therefore, even though we are highly adept at editing mathematical and statistical text, we do not offer statistical consulting nor do we check mathematical accuracy.
